The extension shows the current Ethereum gas price in the menu bar.

You will need an API Key:

Sign up for a free account at Etherscan
Verify your email address
Navigate to API Keys
Click "+ Add"
Enter an optional name and Click "Create New API Key"
Copy API Key
Paste in Preferences OR at prompt
